Dive Mask

The lenses on a quality dive mask are most often made from tempered glass. They almost always feature a rubber or silicone seal that is designed to keep water from entering the mask. However, these seals must be flexible in order to allow the diver to equalize pressure during the dive.

A dive mask can be fitted with a number of different style lenses. Prescription lenses are often used by those that wear glasses or contacts. Specialized lenses can also be purchased that are designed to eliminate the visual distortion that naturally occurs underwater.

A dive mask should only be purchased from a reputable dealer. Masks that feature plastic lenses or built-in snorkels should be avoided, as they can present real hazards when diving. When in doubt, consult with an experienced diver before spending the money on a scuba mask.
